IV members have saved you a lot of money on attorney phone calls, getting answers to medical test questions and other general questions. Please contribute to IV so that we can keep this effort going. While everybody is busy collecting documents and paperwork for 485, core IV again is doing there personal paperwork and + lobbying.
Please contribute, especially if you are new and never contributed. Please do not be a freeloader and get your questions answered and run away.

Folks,
I know this has been discussed in the past on this and other message boards but I wanted to hear some more opinions about it. What is the value of green card to you?
I know different ppl have different reasons like ability to switch jobs, ability to travel freely, ability to have a job for spouse etc. All said and done how many of you would like to go back to your home countries in the next 5-6 years? I know a lot of people have issues such as aging parents back home or they simply don't see themselves living in a foreign land forever. I guess my question is what percentage of ppl aspiring for a GC view it as a convenience vs percentage of ppl who actually see it as a path to settling down in US for good.

Here are some that could be directly related to your situation:
Q22: What will be the receipt date for employment-based adjustment applications filed between July 2, 2007 – July 17, 2007?
A22: In accordance with standard procedure, USCIS will generate receipt notices for all properly filed employment-based adjustment applications based on the date the applications were physically received by USCIS.
Q26: How will USCIS treat aliens who fell out of valid nonimmigrant status between July 2, 2007 – July 16, 2007 as a direct result of the inability to file for employment-based adjustment during that period?
A26. USCIS has discretion to consider extraordinary circumstances that are beyond the alien’s control and may forgive a short gap in status for such aliens.
Just ensure that you have proof of delivery of I-485 to the USCIS.

Have all those visas made available been used up so far by USCIS? I doubt it.
They are not coming clean on this...first they said they used up 60K visas, now they are saying they worked over wkend to use 25K VISAS...

The senator is missing it or dodging it - it clearly means one thing -we are invisible as constituents. We are being taken for a ride only because we do not speak up or go meet our lawmakers. They do not see us as ordinary constituents having the same issues as their other constituents. The whole human -angle is missing.
We have to go meet our lawmakers and explain to them our part of the story/ They need to be told and made aware that we live in their constituencies and our grievances are genuine and need to be addressed.
And although this particular bill does not affect people that are here already.. Beware!! the noose is tightening- the next on the chopping block is EB Immigrants.To answer your question: Indian companies in India or Indian politicians complaining will not do much impact. After passing this bill politicians will cosy up and say good things to rebuild relations. The real impact can happen if Indians in New York state who can vote stand up against such laws. Same goes for the Desi companies who have tried to raise the voice against USCIS memo. They lack grassroots advocacy and support. Their Indian US citizen friends are busy organizing Diwali melas and Shahrukh Khan stage shows. Immigration voice can be extremely successful if politicians see us as an immigrant lobby. Just like they see Jewish lobby or Hispanic lobby. This is why participation of IV greencard members and citizen friends is important to advocate for changes that helps the immigrant community. I this case too, IV community should not turn a blind eye to what happens around us. Just because we do not work for such companies or we already have EAD does not mean we do not see beyond the headline of this issue. We spend more time analyzing , over analyzing, predicting and tracking rather than actively understanding the politics of issues that are causing all the problems we are facing. Here, lawmakers will listen if you know how to lobby.

Our issues are real and affect about a million people patiently waiting in line for past several years. We are high-skilled immigrants who have followed all the rules and contribute significantly to the innovation and economy of this county. Prices remain stagnant since all builders are factoring in the growth. A stagnant price means real loss of 12% every year ( inflation rate)
Interest rates have to come down to 6 - 7% level in India to make it affordable
Rupee has to depreciate further to make it attractive to transfer and invest
In current situation its foolhardy if someone is investing their 2nd /3rd home/plot in India. People seem to have lost bearing on decent diversification, asset allocation.

This thread falls off the radar so quickly and other threads with EAD, AP, H-1B etc. keep popping up every second. I know all those things are important as well but if you pause and think about the big picture, this funding drive is very important as well. So, please buck up and contribute! :)

I just sent a check of $100 via online bill payment to IV. I've also set up recurring contribution checks of $25 every month beginning June. I strongly believe in IV's cause and hope that many folks will come forward. This is the time to act to help ourselves, otherwise we'll be left behind. Keep up the good work.
